Travels

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to go and visit my friend in Delft, Holland. I had a great time there; the town is beautiful and not far from Amsterdam. While exploring the town centre I came across a charity shop, so I had to take a look. Although in the main I found Holland prices a bit more expensive than the UK, it wasn’t the case here. All the clothes were under 10 euros, and most were less than 5.

I found a really nice felt scarf for my friend, and also this denim shirt. It’s huge, but for 3 euros I couldn’t leave it behind. It looks pretty good layered over a dress, or buttoned up with leggings or even thick tights.

This has probably been mentioned before, but it’s so true, when looking for good things in a charity shop it’s best to disregard size and just try things on. Another tip would be if you’re not sure, get it anyway! 🙂

Summer browsing

First of all I apologise for the lack of posts recently.

However, this means I have alot to report on! As a Uni student i tend to have plenty of time in the summer to browse charity shops, which is great! Especially considering i’m not breaking the bank, and the money I do spend  is going to a good cause.

My nearest charity shop is Age Concern. Here are some things I have recently purchased from it:

– a beautiful rose pink suede-style bag for six pounds. Full price I’m guessing was thrice that much.

– a lilac sheer shirt for three pounds, which is great for those ‘smart casual’ things that can be hard to pick an outfit for.

– a blue dress for four pounds which is really versatile, a great dress for the day or the evening.

As much as looking for clothes in charity shops is worthwhile, I find that often the best things to look out for are accessories. Jewelry, watches, bags, belts and scarves are in abundance at charity shops. Considering that most of us own dozens of each, opting to pay full price everytime really adds up to quite alot of money. Plus, there is somthing quite satisfying about being complemented on a bag that cost you four pounds!

Ways With Old Shirts

One of the best items of clothing to easily reinvent is a man’s shirt, so they are a great place to start if you are a novice at altering clothes. They are readily available in charity shops, inexpensive, and so versatile.

Here are a couple of ideas of what you can do with a man’s shirt. If you don’t want to start cutting your shirt up, just try it out rolling up the sleeves and with a belt. Or, they make great pyjamas!
